Graphic Design Contest 08/01/12 - 08/31/12

Subject: Graphic Design Contest 08/01/12 - 08/31/12 Thu Aug 02, 2012 1:25 am

I was thinking that it would be a good idea to put up a contest where the members can show off their amazing graphic designing skills to the forum.

This idea was brought up to me by "Canitude" (creater of the current site banner) and I hope you guys will enjoy this. The contest will last all month, I want to give some time for the site to get a few more members so we have more participation. The more people that make a submission the better! Please do not be shy, even if you think that your editing skills are horrific, you should still make a submission anyway just for the fun of it. Members will have the first three weeks of the month to create an "Ohtahkuu" banner and submit it to my inbox, do not post it in the forums!

On the last week of the month, I will post all of the entries to a voting forum where the winning banner will be decided by majority vote.

You may use whichever image editing software that you prefer.

May only submit two entries per person.

The winner of the contest will get a special title below their avatar and their banner will be featured on the forum for the whole month while the next contest is underway. Most importantly, I just want everyone to have fun. Like I said, even if you're a complete n00b at graphic design and you submit a banner, it will just make it all the more fun when voting week comes around!

Feel free to ask any questions that you might have about the contest here in this topic.

One question: How big should the banner be?

I'll probably join, but my skills are a little rusty. I only recently created the banner for my website which is really simple and before that it was over a year ago since I've done anything GFX related. By the way what size should it be and do you have any specifications? Is a transparent background acceptable like I have on my website, or do you want it to look more like a banner? Also any particular theme? I take it has to be anime related, but any specific anime, or is anything fine?

The banner size should be 1100x200 and yes the girl (mio) with the headphones is the banner.

Don't worry. I still plan on participating, but I'm probably going to be one of those last minute participants. I've just been busy with other stuff, so it'll be at least a few days before I start on mine.

Don't worry so much about all the details, the theme is just to have the word "ohtahkuu" somewhere on there. The rest is where the creativity part comes in, I wouldn't worry about copyrights and violations too much.

Not really, I badly want to participate, but I just don't have enough time in my hands. I just finished taking my quarterly exams today, then another bunch of exams this coming Thursday to Saturday. I hope I'll be one of the last-minute participants.

OK, I just got done creating a banner for here, but I just deleted it and I don't even want to post it on here because it's really bad compared to the current banner on here. It seems it's been way too long since I've created a banner image and my skills are rusty. I'll try again later on, but if I can't get it right I'll just stick to something simple like a render on a transparent background with text. I'd rather you guys have something sweet and simple rather than a banner that looks like shit.

How has the contest been going?

lol... most people i know will use adobe photoshop and other high end software... guess what i just use Microsoft PowerPoint 2010... never heard people making banner using that, but that's me..

yea thats right.. i'm more comfortable using powerpoint to make design like banner, poster, catalog and stuff instead of using excel... i only use photoshop if i'm editing pictures.. contrast, temperature, saturation.. etc...
