What makes a good anime?

In your opinion, what makes a good anime? What does an anime require to be classified as "good", "awesome" or any word positive enough to describe it?

I think what's important is the plot. The art is only a plus factor to me.

I agree, the plot is most important. The art is only superfluous, but pleasing.

Another important part is the characters. Even with an interesting plot, without the right characters to drive the plot, it all goes to waste.

Villains are definitely important.

The audience has to love hating them.

for romance anime i think the it makes a good anime is art ^_^ .
I don;t mind having bad charecters as long as those cute drawing proceed XD

Definitely the plot/storyline. Though for me, the animation/art is also an important deciding factor.

steps of a good anime.. i define as

1.) Good storyline and well plan plot.. (ignoring crappy art like Bokura ga Ita)
2.) fulfill no. 1 and well drawn art ( ignoring angles and surrounding like K-On!)
3.) fulfill no.1 & 2, and mutiple surround and backgrounds, ( ignoring angle like Mayo Chiki)
4.) fulfill No. 1,2,3 and multiple angle animation, (ignoring censored Like Sword Art Online)
5.) UNCENSORED (Including, Slaughtering, killing, shooting, sexual abuse, sexual part like H.O.T.D. or Blood C i guess)

well i dont really mind about the art as long as the anime is good.

A lot of people complain about the crappy art of many series, but to me the art doesn't really matter.

It may take getting used to, but once I do, I'm good and I can enjoy the series.

well anyone watch Joshiraku ? that makes a good anime.. some part make me laugh so hard..

Art definitely isn't the most important part.

I was originally skeptical about One Piece because it looked so cartoony, but now look at me, I'm totally caught up and love it.

But that's just a common example, there are plenty anime out there that don't get enough love just because of their art.

For me; a good romantic and dramatic storyline like Kimi ni Todoke, Itazura na Kiss, etc.

If there's one thing I couldn't do without in an anime, it would be CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. Jeeezuz christ, I dread watching characters make the same mistakes over and over again, like that wonderful show about the star-crossed, diclonius loving boy, who couldn't tale a hint concerining that whiny childhood friend of his. Meanwhile, Chagum of Sora no Moribito; what a lovely transformation.

Additionally, I love multi-dimensional characters, since I can watch the show in wonder, trying to pick them apart, only to realise that they are who they are. eg. Tomoya of Clannad, Dr. Tenma of Monster, etc . . . .

Good Art and a good Soundtrack are also great, but not that essential to a great anime, IMO of course,

what makes a good anime.is keeping the story simple beggining action,rising action,climax and then solution and dropping action and last ending. nuff said
